How to Prepare for an Interview

Updated: Jul 17, 2019

So I had a big interview less than a few months ago that I really wanted to be prepared for. I have done many interviews before, but the nerves always get to me. First thing is first, I have to prepare myself for the interview so that everything can go as smoothly as possible. Here are a few things that I suggest to do in order to prepare for an interview:

1) Find a professional outfit to wear

You never want to come to an interview wearing casual clothes. "Dress to Impress" is right! You will feel better and more confident when you dress up too.

2) Bring at least 3 copies of your resume

Resumes are a crucial thing to bring. If your potential boss wants to hire you, they are going to want to look at your resume and your experiences. It is best to print your resume on high quality paper. You can do this at Fedex Printing or at a local print shop (highly recommend, support your local print shops and artist!)

3) Bring a print portfolio (if you are an art student)

The best way to show off your work is to bring in a print portfolio. Make sure it is printed on high-quality paper and is branded all of the same throughout the book. If you are doing a digital portfolio, some companies would rather see a Behance page or a PDF of your work than your website, so maybe ask the recruiter or the potential employer before going in.

4) Get a good night of sleep and a healthy breakfast the morning of

This can be hard to do when you are stressed and nervous the night before the interview, but it is best to be well-rested so you have the energy to present yourself the best of your ability. I recommend to download the app called Headspace and meditate to calm yourself down so you can relax and fall asleep easier.

Thanks for reading and I hope this helps for your future interviews!
